Go follow my review blog~
Here are the name mistranslations I’ve found so far:
Junpei (順平) = Jumpei (correctly written as ‘Junpei’ at least once)
Danbei (団兵衛) = Dampei
Taranche Panther (タランチェ・パンサー) = Tarantula Panther
Queen Ring (クィーンリング) = Royal Ring (correctly written as ‘Queen Ring’ in episode preview)
Mastodon (マストドン) = Mast Don
Virgo IV (ヴァルゴ四世) = Balvo IV
Puman Claw (ピューマンクロー) = Puma Claw (there’s an extra ‘n’ that needs to be included).
Then are the various mistakes in the episode titles, and actual dialogue. Here are just a few examples:
Episode 3 is “赤い斧が罠を張る” (The Red Axe lays a Trap). They simply translate it as “A Red Trap Waits for Her”. They completely leave out “斧” (Axe) even though they mention in the preview when Tomahawk Panther is referred to as “the red axe”.
Probably the most bizzare of all episode 22 “あこがれのパラダイス学園” (Yearning for Paradise Academy) is translated “High Competition Paradise School”. I really want to know what they were smoking when they got THAT one…
Episode 23 is “妖しきサソリ座の女” (The Bewitching Woman of Scorpio). サソリ座 refers to the constellation Scorpio, if I’m not mistaken. They just translated as ‘The Scorpion Woman”. They completely disregard “妖しき” (Bewitching).
There are some really simple mistakes in the translations, like “matte!” (stop!) as “I can’t stand it!”. There are sometimes where a line is completely mistranslated or ignored. In episode 1 the subtitles literally just stop in the middle of Alphonne (Alfonne in the Discotek translation)’s talking. They can’t settle on one translation for certain honorifics. “Oneesama” becomes “Honey” or “Big sis” or “Miss Honey”. “Oniisama” as “Brother” or simply “Seiji”. Honey refers to her father as “papa”. This is kept in the first episode, every episode after changes between “daddy” and “dad”. Signs are usually not translated, which kind of makes a few things confusing.
I haven’t even watched all the episodes yet, so God knows what else is out there. Of course the credits for each episode are not translated, and the ‘translated’ credits on the last disk were copied from Anime News Network. It’s funny because the ‘credits’ actually correct a lot of names (Alphonne, Danbei, Junpei…).
I mean really Discotek? Did you guys even try?
Huh.. Seems a little concerning.
I’d e-mail those guys or something.@15 hours ago with 9 notes
I’m iced in today here in the mid-south. Yes, not snowed it, but iced. Can’t go anywhere so it seems like a nice time to catch up on my ridiculous backlog of books, comics, and animu.@1 day ago with 1 note
